Also known as sealless pumps, in this technology, the motor is not directly coupled to the pump by a solid shaft. Instead, a drive magnet is used, which is magnetically coupled to the primary shaft driven by the motor.
Magnetic drive pumps are often used where the pumped fluid is dangerous or hazardous, and leakage is likely to cause harm or damage. Since there is no shaft, a seal is not required and so there is no chance of leakage. This can also enhance reliability for critical applications since the shaft seal is invariably the first point of failure.
